95th Rifles in the Penninsular
The French soldiers seemed less disturbed; those who had understood the Lieutenant's words translated them to their comrades and all threw back their heads proudly and nodded, certain that they would give a good account of themselves, even against these crack green fellows. There was Jean Baptiste; Andre Desmarets; Jean Harmentier and Louis Berne, old amis from Bordeaux; Gaspard Z£bede and a dignified, white-moustached veteran of the Imperial Guard, Joseph Melchior.Tom Plunket looked around at his party:
'Well, lads . . . you understand the situation . . . we'll do as the Lieutenant says and then we'll have a bit of fun with each other!'
Then, with every man in the room re-loaded and bayonet/ sword fixed to his weapon, the French Lieutenant and the English Corporal gave their orders, and the Allied group poised for action as the French Lieutenant unbarred the door.
